When a vendor asks to be paid
In short
A vendor can ask to be paid from their own page, for what they're owed or what has cleared. You see the ask in Payouts and get an email. Accept it with Pay now, or let it go by itself if your schedule is When they ask.
Vendors sometimes need their money before pay day. Instead of a phone call, they press Ask to be paid on their own page. VendorDue never pays anyone by itself: an ask tells you, and you decide, unless you've set it to go by itself.
What the vendor asks for#
Their page offers the button whenever they have money to ask for:
- What they're owed: payouts that landed and you haven't paid. They ask for the whole amount.
- What has cleared: sales past their holds that haven't landed yet. When you accept, it lands as a payout.
They can Take it back until you've answered. One ask is open at a time.
Where you see it#
- An email: "Mossgate Candles asked to be paid", with the amount. Turn it off in Settings, then Notifications if you'd rather not.
- Payouts, then Upcoming: their row reads Asked to be paid, with the day, and "Pay now accepts it".
- Payouts, then To pay: if they're asking for money already landed, their row says when they asked and for how much.
Accept it#
Pay them the way you always do.
If they asked for money that has cleared, press Pay now on their row in Payouts, then Upcoming.
Everything cleared is listed, with any sales still on hold to tick in. Say how you paid, and one press lands the payout, records the payment and accepts the ask.
If they asked for money already in To pay, press Pay on their row in Payouts, then To pay and record it.
To land it now and pay later, press Move to To pay instead of Pay now.
The vendor's page then says you accepted, and when their payout lands. See To pay and Pay now.
Let asks go by themselves#
If your vendors are paid when they ask, choose When they ask as their schedule, then how an ask is answered:
| Answer | What happens |
|---|---|
| You accept each ask | It waits for you, as above |
| It goes by itself | What has cleared lands within the hour after they ask |
| It goes by itself once they're owed enough | Above the amount you set, it lands by itself; below it, you accept by hand |
"Goes by itself" lands a payout. It still doesn't pay anyone: the payout waits in To pay for you to pay and record. See Pay day schedules.
Common questions#
- Can I refuse an ask?
- There's nothing to refuse: an ask only tells you. If you don't accept it, their money lands on its usual pay day. Tell them why in Messages. More
- Can a vendor ask when their schedule isn't When they ask?
- Yes. Any vendor with money owed or cleared can ask. Their schedule only decides whether an ask can go by itself. More
- Does an ask change how much they're owed?
- No. It asks for what they're owed or what has cleared, nothing more. More
