How it works

Shop-wide terms and a vendor's own

In short

Your shop-wide terms are the deal most vendors follow, set in Settings › Terms. A vendor on them follows every change you make. Give a vendor their own answer only for the part that's different, and they keep the shop's for the rest.

AdminIn the app: Settings, then Terms

One deal for most vendors#

Settings, then Terms holds your Shop-wide terms The rate, schedule, holds and agreement every vendor follows, unless they have their own. In the glossary: a consignor rate, holds, a schedule and an agreement. You first set them in Store setup. Every vendor you put on them follows them, so you change your deal in one place.

A vendor gets the shop-wide terms when you:

  • press Use the shop-wide terms for them in Vendors, in Vendor setup, or on their Terms tab;
  • answered Get these terms for new vendors in Store setup, and they appeared in Shopify. They're marked New from Shopify until you look at them in Vendor setup.

Giving a vendor their own#

Each of the four parts is separate. To change one part for one vendor, open their Terms tab, press the underlined words in that part's sentence, and change them. Before you save, Save for asks who it's for:

  • Only Alder Ceramics gives them their own for this part. The shop-wide answer stays as it is for everyone else.
  • Everyone on the shop-wide terms changes the shop-wide answer instead, for every vendor who follows it.

Their tab then shows that part as theirs, without Currently using: shop-wide above it. The other parts still follow the shop.

To go back, press Use the shop-wide schedule (or holds, or agreement) on that part. It follows the shop again from today.

Consignor rates: rows on rows#

The consignor rate is the one part that mixes rather than switches. A vendor on the shop-wide consignor rate reads down three lists, in this order, and takes the first line a sale matches:

  1. Their own Rate row One line of a consignor rate: what it applies to, like a product, a collection or a price range, and the rate for it. A sale takes the first row it matches. In the glossarys, if they have any.
  2. The shop-wide rate rows.
  3. Their own Default if they have one, or else the shop's Default.

So you can give one vendor a special rate for one collection and still have everything else follow the shop. See Rate rows and the Default.

For a vendor who's nothing like the rest, turn on Leave out shop-wide rows on their Terms tab. Only their own rows and their Default apply to them.

Changing the shop-wide terms#

Change them in Settings, then Terms. What happens depends on the part:

  • Consignor rate: from the next sale, for every vendor it reaches. Earlier sales keep their rate.
  • Holds and schedule: from the day you choose, tomorrow unless you pick another. Sales that already have a pay day keep it, unless you tick Move them too.
  • Agreement: from the day you choose. A vendor's agreement still counts from the day they were confirmed.

Vendors with their own answer for a part don't change. Vendors who follow it all change together.

When it looks wrong#

A vendor didn't change when I changed the shop-wide terms#

They have their own answer for that part. Their Terms tab shows it without Currently using: shop-wide. Press Use the shop-wide for that part to put them back on the shop's.

Use the shop-wide terms isn't offered for a vendor#

They're paid in a different currency from your shop-wide consignor rate, so it can't reach them. Give them their own consignor rate in their currency.

Common questions#

How do I know which vendors follow the shop-wide terms?
Each part of a vendor's Terms tab says Currently using: shop-wide when it follows the shop. In Vendor setup, the read-back marks each part Shop-wide or theirs. More
Can a vendor have their own rate for one product and the shop's for the rest?
Yes. Add a rate row for that product on their Terms tab. Everything else falls through to the shop-wide rows and Default. More
If I change the shop-wide schedule, do sales already scheduled move?
Not unless you tick Move them too. Sales that already have a pay day keep it, and later sales follow the new schedule. More
