When you're paid

In short

Your sales collect into a payout, which lands on the pay day your store set. Once it lands, the store owes it to you and pays you the way you've agreed. A sale joins a payout only once it has cleared, for example after it ships. You can ask to be paid early from your page.

VendorIn the app: Payouts

The store decides when it pays, and your page says it in one sentence under Next payout, like: "You're paid every month on the 1st, for sales up to the day before, once each sale has shipped."

How your money gets to you#

  1. A sale is recorded. It shows in Live sales as soon as Shopify tells VendorDue, if the store shares them.

  2. It clears. Some stores wait until an item ships, or for a return window to pass, so a sale can't be refunded after you're paid. Until then it's On hold, with the reason and the day it ends.

  3. Its payout lands on the pay day. The amounts are fixed from then on, and you get an email: "Your payout from Fernhill Pottery landed".

  4. The store pays you, by check, transfer, PayPal or however you've agreed, and records it. You get a receipt by email if the store sends them.

So the stoneware mug Alder Ceramics sold on 3 September shipped on 4 September, cleared on 18 September, landed on its payout on 1 October, and was paid by check on 2 October.

Next payout#

At the top of Payouts:

  • Next payout: its day, and what's on it so far. Some still clearing means sales on it are still waiting to clear.
  • Later pay days: sales that cleared too late for the next one.
  • On hold, no day yet: sales still waiting, for example to ship. "Each sale joins a payout once it clears."

Owed to you#

Owed to you is what has landed and the store hasn't paid yet. When everything is paid, it says "Everything on your payouts has been paid."

A payment the store sent through PayPal or Venmo shows where it is:

It saysMeans
On its waySent, waiting for PayPal
Waiting for youSent, but your PayPal isn't set up to receive it. Claim it in PayPal
ArrivedIt reached you
Came backIt didn't reach you, and it's owed to you again

A check shows on its receipt as Ready to pick up at the store, or Mailed, with "Good until" a date. Cash it before then.

Ask to be paid#

Need your money before pay day? Press Ask to be paid under Owed to you. It asks for what you're owed, or for what has cleared, and says so first: "That is everything on your payouts that has not been paid, and any sales that have cleared since can go with it."

The store gets an email, and your page shows your ask: "You asked on 6 October to be paid what has cleared. Fernhill Pottery can see it." Some stores pay asks by hand; some let them go by themselves. Either way, the store still pays you.

When a pay day passes you by#

Your page says why, so you're never left guessing:

  • "What had cleared for you was under Fernhill Pottery's $50.00 minimum payout. It carries into your next payout."
  • "What came off your earnings, such as refunds or charges, was more than what had cleared for you, so nothing landed. The difference comes off your next payout."
  • "Only refunds and charges land on it."

When it looks wrong#

My payout landed but I haven't been paid#

A payout landing means the store owes it; the store still has to pay it. Give it a day or two, then ask in Messages, with the payout attached.

The store says they paid, but nothing arrived#

Open the payout's payment: it says how, when, and the reference. Check that account. If it's PayPal and it says Waiting for you, claim it in PayPal; PayPal returns unclaimed money after 30 days.

A sale has been on hold for weeks#

Open it in Live sales. It says what it's waiting for, like "Waiting to ship". If the item has shipped, ask the store; they may need to mark it in Shopify.

Common questions#

Can I change when I'm paid?
No, the store sets it. You can ask to be paid early, or talk to them about your terms in Messages. More
Why does the store wait until an item ships?
So you're not paid for a sale that's then cancelled or refunded before it leaves. It's in your agreement. More
Does VendorDue pay me?
No. The store pays you. VendorDue keeps the record of what you're owed and what was paid. More
